*Cool Radio Experience Story*
*sometime in July 2003*
Ok, about a five minute story told in more detail than necessar-y. You should know my habits by now guys. *wink, wink* So my radio station WQXE plays Goo all the time. . .I'm talking all the time. One day I decieded to e-mail and tell them they rock. Then, when Sympathy came out, they started playing it a minimum of twice a day. I e-mailed them to let them know that I appreciate it. Not a whole lot of stations around here play Sympathy so it was a real treat to here it on their play list so often. Every Gutterflower spin counts!! Well, a few minutes ago, my work number showed up on the caller id. Dilemma; shift change was up. . .they want me to come in to work!! Arg! Should I answer it? GRRR! However, being the kind soul that I am , I answer. It was my boss. Here is our conversation. Me: Hello? Boss: (all cheerful like) Mandy, did you hear your name on the radio?! Me: (confused at her not asking me to come in to work) No? Boss: Well, they just played a Goo song and said, 'This is for Mandy, the biggest Goo Goo Dolls fan in Radcliff!' Me: (now ecstatic) Are you lying?! Boss: (speaking to another employee for confirmation) They did didn't they! (after confirmation) See, they said your name! Me: What song was it? Boss: I don't know, you're lucky I knew it was Goo! By this time, I am screaming and somewhat sad for having missed it. I call my mom at work. Me: Mom, did you hear my name on the radio? Mom: Peggy (my boss) just called and said that they did. I heard Goo and said that if you were here you'd be jumping up and down, but I didn't hear your name. Me: What song was it? Mom: Sympathy. Slightly tiffed that my mom heard Goo, but chose to block out my name; I call the radio station. A woman answers the phone, I ask did they just say my name after a Goo Goo Dolls song. She says, "I don't know, let's see" and puts me on the phone with the DJ. Me: Hi, my name is Mandy. Did you just say my name after a Goo Goo Dolls song? DJ: Yes! I proceeded to tell the story of my boss calling and me accussing her of lying. Them he actually asked, "You're a Goo Goo Dolls fan?" To which I reply, "Huge!" Then he said that he was sifting through the e-mails and saw mine and thought he would dedicate it to me. He'd noticed that I e-mail every once in awhile and that I was very nice and polite in them. The best part, he said now when I hear Goo at this hour to know that he is playing it for me. I thanked him for playing Sympathy, said he made my day and he wished me a GOOd 4th. The end. . . |
